A well-planned packing list helps you make the most of your time at Cherpont. Below you'll find suggestions for the key items to bring, based on the needs of a modern carp angler. This list isn't exhaustive, but it covers the essentials and will help you arrive prepared, comfortable and ready to fish.
Everything you need for a successful trip
Carp Rods

Use suitable carp rods. Cherpont has previously recommended a test curve of approximately 2¾lb to 3½lb for the size of fish present.
Mainline

A strong, reliable mainline is essential. Many anglers use 15 lb to 20 lb monofilament. Braided line may only be used for spodding and feature finding.
Landing Net

Carp Care
Bring a large, carp-friendly landing net with a strong handle and a deep, soft mesh to keep fish safe.

Fish care is vital. Please bring an XXL hooking mat, XXL retention sling & suitable fish-care antiseptic. All carp-care equipment must be in good condition. Fish must not be retained at any time
Bite Alarms &
Rod Support

Bring reliable bite alarms and banksticks or a rod pod. Ensure you have buzz bars, spare batteries and any accessories you normally use.
Bivvy & Sleeping Equipment

A good quality bivvy, sleeping bag and bedchair will keep you comfortable in all conditions. Don't forget a pillow, warm clothing and other items to make your stay enjoyable.
End Tackle
Bait

Bring a good supply of hooks, rig materials, leads, lead clips and any tackle you like to use. It's always sensible to bring spares.

Bring enough of your chosen bait for the duration of your stay. Many anglers bring a mix of boilies, hookbaits that they are confident with.
