Fishing Rules at Cherpont Lake
Our rules protect the carp, the lake and every angler’s experience. Please read the current rules in full before travelling and follow them throughout your stay.
Mainline
Landing Nets

Carp Rods
Use suitable carp rods. Cherpont has previously recommended a test curve of approximately 2¾lb to 3½lb for the size of fish present.

All reels must comply with Cherpont’s current minimum breaking-strain requirement. Check the latest rule before travelling.

Use a suitable specimen carp landing net. A minimum 42-inch net has historically been required; confirm the current rule before your visit.

Carp Care
Fish welfare is essential.
Suitable carp-care antiseptic must be available. Follow all current requirements for mats, slings, weighing and safely returning fish.

Rod Support & End Tackle
Use a suitable rod pod or permitted bankstick arrangement. All end tackle and rigs must comply with Cherpont’s current rig rules.

Bait Restrictions
Check the current rules before bringing or using particle bait. Restrictions are in place to protect the fish and lake.
Protect the fish, respect the lake and help everyone enjoy their stay. Read the complete and most up-to-date Cherpont Lake fishing rules before travelling.
